Who Should Attend

    This course is intended for both technical and marketing professionals. Web publishing need not be a technical challenge, but those people with technical expertise will gain more from the server-specific parts of the course.

Prerequisites

    Web Page Development (ES0590) or equivalent knowledge, as well as some familiarity with word processing and HTML is required. Some use of electronic mail, as well as some basic understanding of computer systems, Windows and Unix is helpful, though not necessary.

What you will learn

    After reviewing some basic HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language) tags, you will learn how to incorporate color, images, sound and video into your web presentation. Techniques for effectively designing interactive multimedia web sites will be discussed, and students will learn the basics of tables, frames, forms and basic CGI (Common Gateway Interface) scripting (with examples in C, Perl, and the Bourne Shell). Students will learn how to install, configure and effectively run a web site. Demonstrations will include:

    • Using PhotoShop to Edit and Save Graphic Files
    • Creating CGI Scripts
    • Installing, Configuring and Running a Web Server
